"Here's a bit of sacrelige, the best thing I can say about the shifter is that it is an improvement over my jetta's shifter. Bear in mind sticking a dowel rod in oatmeal is an improvement over my jetta." -Me on the FR-S's manual short throw shifter. Honestly, it feels like an arcade cabinet shifter.

Laughed at the dowel rod in oatmeal. After driving my BRZ for a week I hopped back in my GTI and I was amazed that I couldn't find any gears. I think yet another shifter rebuild is in order...

For the record, the shifter really does feel fake somehow in the BRZ. Unsure why, it's very tight and easy to shift, it just feels fake. Arcade cabinet shifter is a very apt description.

Ummmmm, what? You really think so? I'm a fan, I shift literally the whole time I drive it.

I said it before that I really like the feel of the old Audi shifters since it engaged with such a satisfying noise and feel and it had a bit of a longer throw to really make you confident into each shift. With the FR-S.......go play on a need for speed arcade cabinet and use that manual shifter. No joke, the FR-S felt almost identical just with a bit smoother motion but it lacked any mechanical feel to it. Plus the throws were so short that iit was almost too short to my hand. I felt like I would make a mistake because of that combination of very little feel + close/short throws.

Yeah my mk3 doesn't like to get into or stay in reverse sometimes so I need to rebuild mine.

What age Audi? The only Audi I've driven is a 2004 A4 manual and I like the FR-S shifter a lot more. I definitely feel like it klunks into place and you can both hear it and feel it.

That being said, I DD a 99 Civic manual. The shifter in that car is garbage water.

But of course, to each his own. I've driven a 350z, Mustang and A4 all with manuals and prefer the FR-S. I admittedly need to expand my palate though. The FR-S shifter might be like the Maker's Mark of shifters. If you're just starting, you think it's the best thing ever... then you try other bourbons and realize it's not the best.

I drive a 1991 Audi 200 20v. The last hurrah of the old-school audi sedans before VW came in and saved them. I think the ur-S4 and ur-S6 might have the same shifter too.
